CLUTCH ADJUSTMENTS
Adjust the clutch when one of the following occurs:
1. The clutch slips easily when trenching. See Tightening
the Clutch in this manual.
2. The clutch does not slip when the digging chain is
stopped by an object when trenching. See Loosening
the Clutch in this manual.

Tightening the Clutch
1. Pull out and hold the lock pin (3).
2. Rotate the adjusting yoke (2) clockwise until the lock
pin engages the next hole in the clutch plate.
3. When the clutch is adjusted correctly, the clutch will
rotate 1-1/2 to 2 revolutions before stalling the
engine if the digging chain becomes jammed.
NOTE:
If the clutch does not release after several
adjustments, the six release springs behind the clutch
plate can be weak and must be replaced.
Loosening the Clutch
1. Pull out and hole the lock pin (3).
2. Rotate the adjusting yoke (2) counterclockwise until
the lock pin engages the next hole in the clutch plate.
3. When the clutch is adjusted correctly, the clutch will
rotate 1-1/2 to 2 revolutions before stalling the
engine if the digging chain becomes jammed.
NOTE:
If the clutch does not release after several
adjustments, the six release springs behind the clutch
plate can be weak and must be replaced.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Type of Fire Extinguisher
It is recommended that you have a fire extinguisher near
by. The fire extinguisher of the type shown is available
from your dealer.

This dry chemical fire extinguisher has a 5 pound capacity
and is approved for Class A, B and C type fires. The
operating temperature is from -54 to 49°C (-65 to 120°F).
NOTE:
See your Astec dealer for the proper type and
installation of fire extinguisher.
IMPORTANT:
DO NOT mount the Fire Extinguisher on
any part of the ROPS structure, unless the mounting is a
part of the original design of the ROPS. DO NOT make
any modifications to the ROPS structure.
Inspection and Care
EVERY MONTH: It is recommended that you inspect the
fire extinguisher once each month for damage and to
insure that the gauge is working correctly.
EVERY 6 MONTHS: Have the dry chemical removed and
refilled by a fire equipment technician.
ONCE EACH YEAR: Have the fire equipment technician
inspect the fire extinguisher.
