Becausetheprocessofpreparingaboatforlong-termstorage(morethan30days)and/or
winterizaonisextremelyimportantandtakessomemetoaccomplish,thisisoenpairedwiththe
annualmaintenancepreparaons.Regardlessofming,however,storageandwinterizaonmustneverbe
overlooked,especiallyinclimateswherethetemperaturewillfallbelowfreezing.
Iftheboatwillnotbeusedforanextendedperiod,regardlessofseason,oriftheboatwillbelein
waterfullmeduringboangseason,thereareprecauonswhichshouldbetaken.
Ifaboatwillbeleinthewaterallthemeduringboangseason,Axisrecommendsusingaboom
painttoprotectit.Evenwiththehighest-gradeofgelcoat,connuousexposuretowater,evenfreshwater,
willeventuallyresultindamagetothenish.Therefore,inthesecircumstances,boatownersmustprotect
thenishwithanapprovedhullpaint.YourauthorizedAxisdealercandirectyoutothecorrectpaint,and
canactuallydothepreparaonforyou.
Failure to protect the hull from excessive exposure to water or
foul water can result in damage to the hull paint and gel coat is
that is not covered under warranty.
Ifaboatisnotusedforanextendedperiodofme,anddependingonweathercondions,locaon,
andotherfactors,fromtwo(2)weekstoone(1)month—orbeyond—ownersshouldremovetheboat
fromthewaterifpossible.Performtheexpectedstoragepreparaons,includingremovalofallballast
water,waterfromthebilgearea,andperiodicallycheckthebaerystatusascertainautomacfuncons
areperformedevenwhentheboatisoutofthewaterandthebaeryswitchisintheOFFposion.Itmay
benecessarytooccasionallychargethebaery.(Seeaboveinformaonregardingbaerymaintenance
andtheproperwaytoensurebaeriesremaincharged.)
Manyboatownersremovetheboatfromwaterbywayofatrailer,whichallowsfortransportas
wellasanexcellentwaytostoretheboataslongasthetrailerwasdesignedandbuiltforthatboat
model.(Incorrecttmeansthattherewillbeunduestressontheboat’sstructuralunit.Overme,these
componentscouldpotenallyfail,whichwouldnotbecoveredunderwarranty.)
However,someboaters,especiallythosewhoareprivilegedtoliveonashorelineorduetothe
methodsofextracngboatsfromspecicbodiesofwater,mustlitheboattosuspendtheboatorusea
boatcradle.
Whentheboatmustbelied,usethecorrectslingsystemortheliingeyesonly.Neverallowaliing
devicetowraparoundtheunderwatergearastheweightoftheboatcouldcausetheslingtodamagethe
gear.Theboatmaynotbeabletowithstandthegravitaonalforcesiftheboatisnotproperlysupported.
Never use the ski pylon or tower as part of the lifting process.
These components are not designed to be utilized at any time
or any point in the lifting process. Never use the cleats for
lifting either. Never lift the boat with any water in the ballast or
bilge systems of the boat. The additional weight could cause failure also.
Whenusingtheliingeyesontheboat,anoverheadhoistshouldbeusedtolitheboat,coupled
withappropriatelyratedcapacitystraps.Eachstraphastoberatedfortheboatweightorhigher.(Seethe
Quick Reference GuideinthisOwner’sManualtodeterminetheboat’sbaseweight,withoutanyadded
gear.)Whenliingtheboat,keepthebowslightlyhigherthanthesterntoavoidhavinganywaterruninto
theengineexhaustsystem.
Whenusingslings,anappropriatelyratedcapacityoverheadhoistisrequired.Mulpleslingsatleast
six(6)inchesbytwenty(20)feetshouldbeused.Aswiththeliingeyestrapsabove,checktheQuick
Reference GuideinthisOwner’sManualtodeterminetheboat’sbaseweight,withoutanyaddedgear.An
eight-footspreaderbaroneachslingwillpreventsidepressuretothedeckorgunwalemoldingthatcan
causedamage.Suchdamageisnotcoveredunderwarranty.
