If the battery switch is in the OFF position, the automatic bilge
system still operates. If the boat is not being used, the battery
charge will eventually drain the battery of power. See the
Storage section in this Owners Manual for more information.
Inside the battery is an electrolyte fluid that allows the
chemical reaction to provide power. The fluid is comprised of
several components, once of which is sulfuric acid. As with
most acids, this is caustic and corrosive. If it comes in contact
with skin, immediately flush the area with copious amounts of fresh, clean water. Follow
up with medical assistance.
If it becomes necessary to re-charge a battery from an external
source, DO NOT attempt to charge using automotive battery
cables or use another boat battery as the source for charging.
Some amounts of hydrogen gas are emitted during the
charging process. This can be very dangerous. It is critical to keep all sparks, including
smoking cigarettes, lighters or any type of flame, well away from a charging battery. Use
the optional battery charger sold by authorized Axis dealers. Using the wrong type of
charging procedure or improperly charging a battery can result in an explosion and/or fire
that could lead to serious injury or death.
 Thenumbers1,1+2,and2refertothetwobaeriesthatyoupurchasefortheboat.Thebaeriesare
locatedinbaeryholdersinsidetheobserverseat.Aspartoftherounemaintenance,boatownersshould
rounelyverifythatthebaeriesaresecurewithintheholders.
 Baery1isthe“house”baeryormainbaery.Itshouldberatedatleast750coldcrankingamps(cca),
andaspiralcellbaeryispreferable.Baery2istheback-upbaery.Normally,whenthebaeryswitchis
notOFF,itshouldbeseton“1.”However,ifBaery1issomewhatdrainedorsluggish,turningto“1+2”can
beveryhelpfulinprovidingsucientpowertostarttheengineandbeginthenaturalrechargingprocess.
Aertheenginestartsandrunsforafewmoments,returnthebaeryswitchto“1.”Theelectricalsystemis
notdesignedtorunatopmumeciencyon“1+2.”
 Onrareoccasions,itmaybenecessarytoturntheswitchto“2.”Forbriefperiodsofme,especiallyif
Baery1isnon-funconal,youcanrunon“2”.
 Axisdoesnotrecommendthe purchaseand useof baerychargersotherthan thebaerycharger
oeredasanoponthroughyourauthorizedAxisdealer.Thebaerychargeroeredbyyourdealerhas
beenselectedasbestformeengtherequirementsof750ccabaeriesandbyourenginemanufacturers.
 The charger is a three-stage electronic device that operates automacally when properly installed.
ThereareredandgreenLEDlightsonthechargerfacetoprovideevidencethatchargingisoccurring.When
thebaeryorbaeriesarefullycharged,theunitwillautomacallyshuto.
 Thechargerplugsintoasocketunderthedash.Itcanbeleinplacewithoutboilingelectrolytesinthe
baery,butAxisrecommendsdisconnecngandstoringitwhennotinuse.Ifthechargereverappearsto
bemalfunconing,taketheboatandchargertoanauthorizedAxisdealerfortroubleshoong.
 Allboatshave12-voltreceptaclesforyourconvenience.Somemodelshavemorethanonereceptacle.
Verifylocaonswith yourauthorizedAxisdealer.Itis theresponsibilityofthe deviceuser todetermine
that the accessory is designed to be operated on a 12-volt system. If the connector will not easily and
securelyinsert intothe 12-voltreceptacle,do not force it.Ifdamage occursto thedeviceor the boat’s
electricalsystembyaempngtouseadevicethatisnotcompable,suchdamagewillnotbecovered
underwarrantynorwillAxisacceptresponsibilityfordamagetotheaccessory.
 Theboatisequippedwith severalalarmsystems.Ingeneral,analarm soundis anindicaonthata
potenallyseriousissueexists.Thelow-voltagealarmfunconswhenthebaerysystemchargehasfallen
toalevelthatcouldresultintheboatbecomingunabletoconnuetheoung.Thelow-voltagealarmwill
beaccompaniedbyanindicaononthedash.Followdireconsastheyappear.
