WATERSPORTS SAFETY CODE
Before you get in the water:Skiingorridinginstruconisrecommendedbeforeuse.Instruconwill
teachgeneralsafetyguidelinesandproperskiingorridingtechniques,whichmayreduceyourriskofinjury.
Formoreinformaononskiingorridingschools,contactyourdealer,Associaon,orlocalskiclub.
• Knowthefederal,stateandlocallawsthatapplytoyourarea.
• If you are not familiar with a waterway, ask someone who is knowledgeable to tell you about any
hiddendangersorthingstoavoid.
• Whetheryouplantobeinawatercra,orskiing/ridingbehindoneitisimportantyouarewearinga
properlyedlifejacket(PFD)approvedbyyourcountry’sagency,USCGTypeIII,ISO,etc.
• Inspectallequipmentpriortoeachuse,checkbindings,ns,tube,aachment,towropeandotaon
device.Donotuseifdamaged.
Watercra Safety: A knowledgeable and responsible drive is the most important safety device on any
watercra.
• Neveroperateawatercra,skiorrideundertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs.
• Onlyusewaterballastandpeopleforaddionalweight.
• Neverexceedthepassengerorweightlimitaonsofthewatercra.
• Never allow passengers to hang outside the watercra or towed device or sit on the gunwales or
anywhereoutsideofthenormalseangarea.
• Neverallowwatertooverowtheboworgunwalesofthewatercra.
• Unevenweightdistribuonoraddionalweightmayaectthehandlingofthewatercra.
Carbon Monoxide: TheexhaustfromtheengineonawatercracontainsCarbonMonoxide(CO)whichis
acolorless,odorlessandpoisonousgas.ExcessiveexposuretoCOcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Follow
thisadvicetoavoidinjury.
• Never“PlaormDrag” byholdingonto theboardingplaormor beingdraggeddirectlybehind the
watercra.ThisiswhereCOwillbe.
• Donotsitonthewatercratransomoboardingplaormwhiletheengineisrunning.
• Make sure the engine is properly tuned and running well. An improperly tuned engine produces
excessiveexhaustandCO.
• Ifyousmellengineexhaustdonotstayinthatposion.
• GototheUnitedStatesCoastGuard’swebsite:(www.uscgboang.org)formoreinformaononhowto
helpprotectyourselfandothersfromthedangersofCO.
Tow Ropes:Towropescomeindierentlengthsandstrengthsfordierentacvies.makesureanyrope
youareusingissuitedforthatacvityandthatitisingoodcondion.
• Neverusearopethatisfrayed,knoed,unravelingordiscoloredfromuseorbeingleinthesun.Ifa
ropebrakeswhileinuseitcanrecoilattheskier/riderbeingtowedorintothewatercrawhereitmight
strikepassengers.Replacetowropeswithanysignofdamage.
• Neveruseatowropewithelascorbungeematerialtopullskiersorriders.
• Ropeshouldbeaachedtothewatercrainanapprovedfashionwithhardwaredesignedfortowing.
Refertoyourwatercramanualforinstruconsonpropertowropeaachment.
• Alwayskeeppeopleandtowropesawayfromthepropeller,evenwhenidling.
• Ifatowropeshouldbecomeentangledinapropeller,shutoengine,removethekeyandsecureitin
asafelocaonbeforeretrievingtherope.
• Towropesshouldbeneatlystowedintheboatwhennotinuse.
Preparing to ski or ride:Alwayshaveapersonotherthanthedriveractasanobservertolookoutforthe
skier/rider.
• Besurethedriverisawareoftheexperienceandabilityoftheskier/rider.
• Thedriver,observerandskier/riderneedtoagreeonhandsignalsbeforeskiingorriding.Signalsshould
includeREADY,STOP,SPEEDUPandSLOWDOWN.
• Starttheengineonlyaermakingsurethatnooneinthewaterisnearthepropeller.
• Turntheengineowhenpeople aregengintooroutofthewatercra,orin thewaternearthe
watercra.
• Alwaysmakesurethetowropeisnotwrappedaroundanyone’shands,arms,legsorotherpartsofthe
body.
• Startthewatercraandmoveslowlytoremoveslackunlthetowropeisght.
