Explanation
A portable residual current protection device (PRCD) provides
protection against hazardous body currents in the downstream
circuit in case of direct contact. The rated value for the tripping
fault current is max. 30 mA.
After the visual inspection, the “PRCD” button is
available via the manual test according to “VDE
0701-0702, (Class I)”.
The following PRCD types can be tested using the
BENNING ST 755/ ST 760:
The PRCD test may include the following test steps
(type-specific):
PRCD
o tripping current for I nom. [mA] (at 0° and 180°)
o tripping time 1x I nom. [ms]
o tripping time 5x I nom. [ms]
o tripping time ½x I nom. [ms]
o contact voltage [V]
o functional test of the PRCD TRIP button
o functional test with disconnected conductor (L, N, PE)
In addition:
RPE
RInsu-IN (RInsu-1, LN<->PE)
RInsu-OUT (RInsu-2, sec.<->PE)
IPE
ICont
Preconfigured test procedures for the following PRCD types are
integrated in the "Automatic" section (see chapter 11).
The PRCD test procedure automatically guides you through the
test steps that are specific for the respective PRCD type. The
current instructions are shown on the display of the appliance
tester.
The test socket is supplied with mains voltage.
PRCDs of type AC only detect pure sinusoidal currents
and are therefore no longer approved in Germany
according to VDE 0100-530.
Make sure that all plug connections are properly
connected to each other.

Insert the shock-proof plug of the portable residual current
protection device (PRCD) into the test socket of the appliance
tester.
Connect the cable adapter to the shock-proof socket of the PRCD
and the cable adapter jack of the BENNING ST 755/ ST 760.
The test sample is supplied with mains voltage.
Follow the instructions shown on the display of the appliance
tester.
Connect the portable residual current protection device (PRCD)
according to the connection diagram.
Select the corresponding PRCD type
(e. g. PRCD-A).
Select an individual test.
"PRCD" is the default individual test procedure for a
portable residual current protection device.
In addition, the following individual tests can be carried
out:
RPE, RInsu-IN/OUT, IPE and ICont
Tap the “Start” button.
Follow the instructions shown on the display of the appliance
tester.
Check the measured values for compliance with the prescribed
limits.
Tap the “Stop” button to stop the test.
The “Test result” screen opens.
