Use only ahydraulic fluid that corresponds tothe following requirements:
You can find details on the minimum requirements for hydraulic fluids in
BoschRexroth data sheets 90220, 90221, 90222, and 90223. The titles
ofthedatasheets can befound inTable 1 "Required and supplementary
documentation" onpage5.
BoschRexroth evaluates hydraulic fluids onthe basis oftheFluid Rating
according todata sheet 90235. For hydraulic fluids which have been positively
evaluated inthe Fluid Rating, please refer todata sheet 90245 "BoschRexroth
fluid rating list for Rexroth hydraulic components (pumps and motors)". The
hydraulic fluid should beselected sothat theoperating viscosity inthe operating
temperature range iswithin theoptimum range (ν
opt

data sheet 93100).
Toensure thefunctional reliability oftheaxial piston unit, cleanliness level 20/18/15
according toat least ISO4406 isrequired for thehydraulic fluid. At ahydraulic fluid
viscosity ofless than 10 mm²/s (e.g. due tohigh temperatures during short-term
operation) atthedrain port, acleanliness level ofatleast 19/17/14 according
toISO4406 isrequired. You can find details onthe permissible and optimal
viscosities and admissible temperatures indata sheet 93100.
Proceed asfollows tofill theaxial piston unit:
1. Place adrip tray under theaxial piston unit tocollect any hydraulic fluid that may
leak.
NOTICE! Contaminated hydraulic fluid!
The cleanliness levels ofcommercial hydraulic fluids are usually insufficient for our
components.
▶ Use asuitable filter system tofilter hydraulic fluids during filling tominimize solid
particle contamination and water inthe hydraulic system.
2. Fill and air bleed theaxial piston unit via theappropriate ports; see chapter7.3
"Installation position" onpage29. Also fill thehydraulic lines ofthesystem.

▶ When using a shut-off valve in the suction line, make sure that the drive of the
axial piston unit can only be started when the shut-off valves are open.
▶ Dimension a shut-off valve in the suction line so that no inadmissible pressure
drop occurs in the suction area when the shut-off valve is open.
3. If you use a shut-off valve in the suction line, only operate the axial piston unit
with opened shut-off valves.
4. Test thedirection ofrotation ofthedrive motor. To do this, run thedrive motor
briefly atthelowest rotational speed (inching). Make sure that thedirection
ofrotation oftheaxial piston unit agrees with thedetails ofthename plate,
seechapter5.3 "Product identification", Fig. 4:Name plate A20VO, size 520
onpage 22.
