safety instructions are introduced by signal words that express the
extent of the hazard.

This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a situation of immediate danger which, if not avoided,
will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a situation of possible danger which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a situation of possible danger which, if not avoided,
could result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a situation of possible danger which, if not avoided,
could result in damage to property and the environ-
ment.
Safety instructions may refer to specific, individual procedural
instructions. Such safety instructions are embedded in the proce-
dural instructions, so that they do not interrupt the flow of reading
when performing the action. The signal words described above are
used.
