Connecting to the RS-232 Serial Port
You can wire the RS-232 serial port to establish a PC console connection. The serial port
uses wire-wrap pins on the E5-400 rear panel.
Use a DB-9 console cable to wire the RS-232 serial port to a PC.
To wire the RS-232 serial port
1. If the console cable is terminated with DB-9 connectors on both ends, clip off the
connector at one end.
2. Separate out the wires associated with pins 2, 3, and 5 of the DB-9 connector. Strip off
one inch of insulation from each wire.
3. Connect the identified wires to the wire-wrap pins on the E5-400 rear panel as follows:
Attach the wire associated with pin #2 to the CUTX pin.
Attach the wire associated with pin #3 to the CURX pin.
Attach the wire associated with pin #5 to one of the LGND pins.
