Fan Tray Filter Maintenance
The filter assembly is made of closed cell fiber composite material and can be washed and
replaced. Calix recommends conducting a visual inspection of the filter every 3 months.
When the filter becomes visibly clogged with dust or dirt, the filter must be cleaned.
To clean the fan tray filter
1. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the captive fan tray screw.
2. Grasp the ejection lever and pull the fan tray assembly out of the E5-400 chassis.
Note: The E5-400 fan tray assembly is hot pluggable and can be removed with power
applied.
3. Remove the fan tray filter located on the right hand side of the fan tray assembly.
4. Clean the filter as follows:
a. Using compressed air, spray the filter to remove loose dust particles from the surface
of the filter.
b. Thoroughly wash the filter in soapy water, removing any trapped dust/dirt particles.
Rinse the filter with water.
c. Pat dry the filter using an absorbent towel or cloth.
d. Spray the filter with compressed air to remove any remaining moisture on the outside
of the filter.
5. Reinstall the filter and fan tray assembly in reverse order (Steps 1–3 above).
Note: If the filter is badly worn, replace it with a new filter (available from Calix).
