Wiring the Ethernet Line Interfaces
This section describes how to connect to the E5-400 Ethernet line interfaces, which includes
the following:
(12) GE SFP ports (1000/100 Mbps), with the following SFP module options:
100/1000 BaseT copper SFP
1000 Mbps dual and single fiber SFP
(2) 10GE SFP+ ports (10 Gbps)
10GE optical SFP+
10GE passive copper SFP+
(2) 10GE XFP ports (10 Gbps)
Equipping the Mini GBIC Slots
The E5-400 Ethernet ports use Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP, SFP+, XFP) modules to
provide the line interface connections using mini Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC)
transceiver modules. The hot-swappable GBIC transceivers are modular units that house a
transmitter and a receiver.
E5-400 units do not ship with GBIC transceivers. Use transceivers that comply with the SFP
Transceiver MultiSource Agreement (MSA). See the Small Form Factor (SFF) committee
INF-8074i specification Rev 1.0 for details.
You can use different GBIC transceiver types to connect to devices with different types of
fiber-optic connectors. Use transceivers with the following specifications per port type:
