Chapter 2 Message and Recovery Procedures
SW_VLAN Messages
Error Message SW_VLAN-4-VLAN_CREATE_FAIL: Failed to create VLANs [chars]: [chars].
Explanation The specified VLANs could not be created. The port manager might not have completed
the VLAN creation requests because the VLANs already exist as internal VLANs. The first [chars]
is the VLAN ID, and the second [chars] describes the error.
Recommended Action Check the internal VLAN usage by using show vlan internal usage privileged
EXEC command, reconfigure the feature that is using the internal VLANs, and try to create the
VLANs again. If this message appears again, copy the message exactly as it appears on the console
or in the system log. Research and attempt to resolve the error by using the Output Interpreter. Enter
the show tech-support user EXEC command to gather data that might help identify the nature of
the error. Use the Bug Toolkit to look for similar reported problems. If you still require assistance,
open a case with the TAC, or contact your Cisco technical support representative, and provide the

[dec] from vtp function [chars] [chars].
Explanation The VLAN manager received an unexpected error code from the VTP configuration
software. [dec] is the error code, the first [chars] is the VTP function, and the second [chars] is the
error-code description.
Recommended Action Copy the message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log.

Explanation The VLAN manager received invalid data from a VTP configuration database routine.

[chars] is the VTP database function.
