Specifying the device name for the gateway
After this, it is important to enter a device name for the gateway and for the
individual SmartWire-DT modules. The reason for this is that this information
will be used to identify the gateway on the EtherNet/IP field bus and when
naming the I/O data corresponding to the SmartWire-DT modules in the
export file.
A device name is used for the gateway in SWD-Assist. "EIPSWD" will be the
default name used by the program. The device name will be used later on
when creating the EU5C-SWD-EIP-MOD-TCP EtherNet/IP gateway in the PLC
programming environment's device configurator, as well as when creating
the symbolic names used to identify I/O data.
The device name must be unique, i.e., it cannot be in use in the application
program already. The maximum permitted length is 24 characters. The name
can contain letters, numbers, and underscores (_). Umlauts are not permissi-
ble, e.g., "ä," "ö."

The device name must not start with a number.
