GAS SHOCKS
Gas shocks are commonly used
on paratransit doors, storage
compartments and rear exit doors.
Gas shocks assist in keeping the door
in the open position. When opening the
door, the operator must keep control
of the door until completely open to
ensure the wind does not force the
door in either direction.
Gas shocks are not to be utilized as a
stop for letting the door go. Allowing
the door to travel freely may damage
the gas shock, particularly when windy,
resulting in premature failure of the
ball joints where the gas shocks attach,
additionally causing damage to the
securement brackets on the door leaf
or frame attachment points.
The door operator must keep a hand on any
doors equipped with gas shocks from open to
close, to protect the door’s mechanisms.
