6 Using the Mass ProPlate
Engineering Assistant Software
This section explains how to use the Mass ProPlate Engineering
Assistant (EA) Software with the Mass ProPlate Mass Flowmeter,
and is divided into four sub-sections:
Install the Mass ProPlate Engineering Assistant
Software (see page 6-1).
Establish communications between a personal
computer and a Mass ProPlate (see page 6-5).
Procedure Outlines (see page 6-8).
Engineering Assistant Software Screens (see page 6-10).

precautions to ensure the safety of the personnel performing the
operations. Information that raises potential safety issues is indicated
by a warning symbol ( ). Refer to the following safety messages before
performing an operation preceded by this symbol.
INSTALL THE MASS
PROPLATE ENGINEERING
ASSISTANT SOFTWARE
The Mass ProPlate Engineering Assistant Software package is
available with or without the HART modem and connecting cables. The
complete Engineering Assistant package contains two 3.5-in. floppy
disks, one HART modem, and a set of cables for connecting the
computer to the Mass ProPlate (see Figure 6-1 on page 6-5).
Explosions could result in death or serious injury:
Do not remove the transmitter cover in explosive atmospheres when the circuit
is alive.
Before connecting a HART-based communicator in an explosive atmosphere,
make sure the instruments in the loop are installed in accordance with
intrinsically safe or non-incendive field wiring practices.
Verify that the operating atmosphere of the transmitter is consistent with the
appropriate hazardous locations certifications.
Both transmitter covers must be fully engaged to meet explosion-proof
requirements.
The unused conduit opening on the electronics housing must be
plugged and sealed to meet explosion-proof requirements.
Failure to follow these installation guidelines could result in death or serious injury:
Make sure only qualified personnel perform the installation.
