7.1.3 Coupling the trailer
When coupling and uncoupling, you must also observe the information in section 4.2.
Read this section carefully prior to start-up.
- Move the towing device of the towing vehicle or the drawbar eye of the trailer to the correct
height. See section 7.1.2.
- Open the towing device on the towing vehicle.
- Move the towing vehicle backwards until the drawbar eye engages in the towing device.
- Secure the towing vehicle against rolling away (parking brake) and turn off the engine.
- Check whether the towing device is engaged.
- If the trailer is equipped with forced steering, the control cylinder of the forced steering must
be attached to the mounting point on the towing vehicle.
- Establish the electrical connections and connect the service brake.
Attaching the drive shaft
Attach the drive shaft between the tractor and the
Fliegl ULW.
Ensure that the swivel head audibly engages in
the PTO stub.
Fig. 50: Drive shaft attachment
Before assembly, check the minimum length of the drive shaft.
The minimum length is the smallest possible distance between the tractor PTO and
the connection point on the trailer.
An excessively long drive shaft can buckle during operation or even break off.
The section tubes of an excessively long drive shaft can be shortened using an angle
grinder with a metal cutting disk or similar tool. The tubes are made of hardened
material. After cutting, deburr both section tubes and remove all swarf.
You must also read the drive shaft operating manual carefully and follow the
contained instructions.
Fig. 51: Drive shaft
Shorten the drive shaft and the corresponding protective tubes on both sides.
Otherwise, the shaft could be damaged.
- Only attach the drive shaft when the tractor motor is switched off.
- With regard to the attachment of the drive shaft, you must also read and
follow the instructions in section 14.1.
Check the drive shaft length when straight and at maximum steering angle.
Check that the drive shaft profile has overlapped by 2/3 and can still move
freely when steered.
