14.1 Safety and operating conditions of the drive shafts
This information is provided for your safety.
Correct use of the drive shafts and completeness of the
accident prevention devices are essential requirements for
operator safety.
A large proportion of accidents occur as a result of missing or
manipulated safety devices.
The manufacturer therefore recommends the use of suitable
protective systems for drive shafts and PTOs. Any damaged
parts of the safety devices must always be replaced with
original replacement parts.
It is strongly recommended to the manufacturer of the work
machine to attach suitable stickers.
These stickers must state that all safety devices must be
attached and in functional condition.
It is also recommended to the manufacturer of the work
machine to supplement the operating instructions with a list
of the safety devices and stickers, indicating the
corresponding locations and order numbers.
The basic instructions for safe and correct use of the drive
shaft are provided on the safety stickers and in the operating
manual supplied with the drive shaft.
The stickers and operating instructions are available in
different versions, depending on the country of destination of
the drive shaft.
Before commencing work, please read carefully through this
information and the operating instructions for the work
machine.
Fig. 75: Drive shaft
All rotating parts must be adequately covered.
The safety devices on the tractor and working attachment form an integral
system with the drive shaft guard.
The work machine should be driven only with original drive shafts, which are
constructed with the length, size, couplings and safety devices that correspond
to their intended application. When working with the machine and drive shaft,
strictly observe the specifications regarding rotational speeds and output, as
detailed in the operating instructions for the machine.
The drive shafts, overload clutches and overrun clutches listed in the catalogue
are intended for use at rotational speeds up to a maximum of 700 rpm.
Avoid overloads and switching on the PTO while under load.
Always attach overload and overrun clutches on the machine side of the drive
shaft. Use of the drive shaft and overload/overrun clutches for anything other
than the intended purpose is not allowed.
