RADIO SYSTEM
GENERAL
The Primus 1000 radio equipment includes
dual VHF communication, dual VHF naviga-
tion, dual DME, dual transponder, and a sin-
gle ADF (dual is optional).
Two radio management units (RMUs) (Figures
16-1 and 16-6) provide controls for all of the
units within the radio system. An auxiliary
control head for the VHF communications
transceiver #1 and VOR navigation receiver #1
is located on the front right corner of the cen-
ter pedestal (Figure 16-1). It is referred to as
the clearance delivery head (CDH). An audio
control panel is provided on each side of the
cockpit for controlling incoming and outgo-
ing audio signals. In addition, the audio con-
trol panels are used to control interphone,
headphone, speaker, cabin PA, and marker
beacon audio/sensitivity.
Two integrated communications units are lo-
cated in the nose avionics bay. They each con-
tain VHF communications transceiver and
Mode C air traffic control transponder mod-
ules. If the optional TCAS I is installed, it is
controlled by this unit also. For TCAS II
equipped airplanes, Mode S transponders are
installed in place of the Mode C units.
Two integrated navigation units are also lo-
cated in the nose avionics bay. They each con-
tain a VOR, localizer, glideslope and marker
beacon receiver module, a DME module and
an ADF module (dual ADF modules are op-
tional).
The DME module is a six channel scanning
DME that simultaneously tracks four selected
DME channels for distance, ground speed and
time to station. Two of the channels are con-
trolled by the pilot and two channels are ded-
icated to the FMS when installed. The modules
also track two additional channels for the
IDENT function.
AUDIO CONTROL SYSTEM
The pilot’s and copilot’s digital audio control
panels (Figure 16-7) are located outboard of
the PFDs on each side of the cockpit.
Microphone transmit selector buttons are lo-
cated in a row along the top edge of this panel.
For night flying operations, the microphone se-
lector buttons are annunciated with a lighted
bar on the switch indicating the selected mi-
