PFD ARC or MAP displays. The radar
transmitter is turned on/off using the radar
control panel on the center pedestal.
HSI – Provides up to three different display
options on the HSI. The power-up default
display, is a full 360° compass rose format
(HSI). Depressing the HSI button after
power-up selects a 90° partial arc (ARC).
Depressing the button a second time dis-
plays a 90° map format (MAP). The third
option (MAP format) is only available
after FMS has been selected as the navi-
gation source. Weather radar is available
with MAP or ARC selected. A MAP dis-
play cannot be displayed on the PFD when
a MFD is being displayed on the same
side. For example, the MFD is normally
displayed on DU3; therefore, the copilot
cannot select the MAP display on the PFD
in this case. Depressing the HSI button
with the last option being displayed re-
turns the presentation to a full compass
rose (HSI).
FMS – Allows a navigation display of FMS
information to be selected for display on
the PFD. The power-up default for this
option is no selection. For dual FMS
equipped airplanes, this button allows the
operators to toggle between FMS1 and
FMS2 for data display.
NAV – Alternately selects NAV1 (VOR/LOC)
or NAV2 (VOR/LOC) as the source of NAV
data on the HSI (nav source). This allows
the pilot or copilot to select
VOR1/LOC1/ILS1 or VOR2/LOC2/ILS2
data for display. The power-up default is
onside NAV. The display automatically re-
verts the HSI selection to the ARC dis-
play if the MAP presentation was
previously in view.
Display Controller Knobs
BEARING SOURCE SELECTORS – Each
display controller contains two rotary bear-
ing source selector knobs (Figure 16-29).
The bearing source selector knobs are used
to assign the respective bearing pointers on
the HSI or ARC displays to a particular
navigation source. The knobs are labeled
BRG ❍ (left knob) and BRG
◊ (right knob).
The ❍ and
◊ symbols correspond to the
symbols used on the bearing pointers
(Figure 16-31). Also, the No.1 bearing
pointer (❍) is cyan in color and the No.2
bearing pointer (
◊) is dim white.
When using the HSI or ARC display on the
PFD, the left bearing source knob (BRG ❍)
is used to select any of the available No.1
sources [i.e. FMS (FMS1), ADF (ADF1),
and NAV (VOR1)]; and the right knob (BRG
◊) is used to select any of the available
No.2 sources [i.e. FMS (FMS2, if installed),
ADF (ADF2, if installed) and NAV
(VOR2)]. If only one FMS or one ADF is
installed, a bearing pointer can be selected
with either BRG ❍ or BRG
◊. The OFF po-
sition on the bearing source selector will
remove the bearing pointer from the PFD.
When the bearing source knobs are se-
lected to a navigation source (FMS, ADF
or NAV), the selection is indicated in the
bottom left corner of the PFD (Figure 16-
31). Although the bearing source selec-
tions on the display controller do not have
a number 1 or 2 by them, the selection will
be annunciated in the bottom left corner of
the PFD with a 1 or 2 when there is more
than one source of that type navigation
equipment available (e.g. VOR1 or VOR2).
The default selection of the bearing point-
ers in the event of a display controller fail-
ure is to NAV for the on-side bearing
pointer and OFF for the cross-side pointer.
That is, the pilot’s PFD would have only
a VOR1 bearing pointer and the copilot’s
PFD would contain only a VOR2 bearing
pointer.
When MAP is displayed on the PFD and a
NAV bearing source selection is made, a
nav aid symbol (VOR or VORTAC) will ap-
pear on the map display instead of the
bearing pointer (Figure 16-32). The nav aid
symbol will be plotted on the MAP display
at the proper bearing and distance from the
