Secure thevehicle againstrolling away

Observe thefollowing points to ensurethat the
vehicle is properly secured againstrolling away
unintentionally:

always applythe parking brake.

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
engagetransmission position j.
#
On uphill or downhill inclines: turnthe
front wheels towardsthe curb.
#
On uphill or downhill inclines: securethe
rear axle withachockoranobject without
sharpedges.

Youcan operatethe side windows forfive
minutes afteryou have switched offthe vehi‐
cle.
Manual parking brake
Applying/releasing thehandbrakelever
&
WARNING Risk of skidding or an acci
dent by braking withthe parking brake
If youhave to brakeyour vehicle withthe
parking brake, thebraking distance is consid‐
erably longer and thewheels maylock. There
is an increased risk of skidding and/or acci‐
dent.

Only brakethe vehicle withthe parking
brakeifthe service brakehas failed.
#
In this case, do notapplythe parking
brakewithtoo muchforce.
#
If thewheels lock, immediately release
theparking brakeasmuchasrequired
forthe wheels to turnagain.

WARNING Risk of fire and an accidentif
theparking brakeisnot released
If theparking brakeisnot fullyreleased when
driving, thefollowing situations can occur:

The parking brakecan overheat and cause
afire
R
The parking brakecan lose its holding
function

Completely release theparking brake
beforedriving off.
The brakelights do notlight up when youbrake
thevehicle withthe parking brake.
