QR codes forrescue card
The QR code stickers areaffixed to theB-pillar on
thedriver's and co-driver's side. In theevent of
an accident, emergency servicescan usethe QR
code to quicklydetermine thecorresponding res‐
cue cardfor your vehicle. The current rescue card
contains, in compact form,the mostimportant
information aboutyour vehicle e.g. therouting of
electric cables.

Data storage
Electronic control units
Electronic control unitsare installed in your vehi‐
cle. Some of them arenecessaryfor your vehicle
to function safely, some provide supportwhen
driving (driver assistance systems). In addition,
your vehicle offers comfortorentertainment
functionswhichare also made possible withelec‐
tronic control units.
Electronic control unitscontain datamemories
whichcan permanentlyortemporarily storetech‐
nical informationonthe vehicle's operating state,
component stress, service requirements as well
as technicaleventsand malfunctions.
This information generally documents thestate of
acomponent part, amodule, asystemorofthe
environment suchas:
R
operating statuses of system components
(e.g. fluid levels, batterystatus,tirepressure)
R
status messages concerningthe vehicle and
its individual components (e.g. number of
wheel revolutions/speed, deceleration,lateral
acceleration,displayofthe fastened seat
belts)
R
malfunctions or defects in important system
components (e.g. lights, brakes)
R
information on events in whichthe vehicle is
damaged
R
system reactionsinspecial drivingsituations
(e.g. airbag deployment, intervention of sta‐
bilitycontrol systems)
R
ambient conditions (e.g. temperature, rain
sensor)
In addition to theprovision of control unitfunc‐
tions, this dataservestorecognize and rectify
malfunctions as well as to optimize vehicle func‐
tions by themanufacturer.Mostofthis datais
volatile and is onlyprocessed in thevehicle itself.
Onlyasmall proportion of thedataisstoredin
event or fault memories.
When youuse services, thetechnical datafrom
thevehicle can be read out by service network
employees (e.g. workshops, manufacturers) or
thirdparties (e.g. breakdown services). Services
include repair services, maintenanceprocesses,
warrantyevents and quality assurancemeasures,
forexample. The dataisread out via theconnec‐
tion forthe diagnostics connection in thevehicle,
whichisrequired by law. The respectiveservice
networklocations or thirdparties collect, process
