Electrical assemblies could be damaged if the
starterbatteryisdisconnected whilethe
engine is running.

Switchoff theengine. Then, release the
batteryclamps of thestarter battery.

Alwaysdisconnect thestarterbatteryin
thebatterycase in theleftfootwell first.
Otherwise, electricalassemblies, e.g.
thealternator,could be damaged.

Incorrectly disconnecting theauxiliarybattery
can cause damagetothe vehicle's electron‐
ics.

Alwaysdisconnect theauxiliarybattery
as described in thefollowing sequence.
Do notreversethe batteryterminals

Observe thesafetymeasures and protection
notices when disconnectingthe auxiliarybat‐
tery (/ page199).

Switchoff all electrical consumers.
#
Switchoff theengine and thepower supply.
#
Open thehood (/ page182).
#
First loosen and remove thenegativeterminal
clamponthe auxiliarybatterysothat the
clamp is no longer in contact with thetermi‐
nal.
#
Remove thepositiveterminal clampcover.
#
Loosenand remove thepositiveterminal
clamp.
Towing or tow-starting

In theevent of abreakdown, Freightliner Sprinter
recommends that youhave thevehicle transpor‐
tedinstead of towed.
