ActiveDistance AssistDISTRONIC
Function of ActiveDistance AssistDISTRONIC
ActiveDistance Assist DISTRONICmaintains the
setspeed on free-flowing roads. If vehicles ahead
aredetected, theset distance is maintained,if
necessary until thevehicle comes to ahalt. The
vehicle accelerates or brakes depending on the
distance to thevehicle in front and theset speed.
Speed and distance areset and stored on the
steering wheel. The speed can be setinthe range
between 15 mph(20 km/h) and 99 mph
(160 km/h) or between 15 mph(20 km/h) and
thevehicle's maximum speed.
Other features of ActiveDistance Assist
DISTRONIC:
R
Depending on thepreselected distance,
DISTRONIC intervenes either dynamically
(shortdistance) or to save fuel (long dis‐
tance).
R
Depending on thevehicle mass detected, the
dynamics of theDISTRONIC intervention are
reduced.
R
Rapid acceleration to thestoredspeed is initi‐
ated if theturnsignal indicator is switched on
to changetothe overtaking lane.
ActiveDistance Assist DISTRONICisonly an aid.
The driver is responsible forthe distance to the
vehicle in front, forvehicle speed and forbraking
in good time.
System limitations
The system maybeimpaired or maynot function
in thefollowing instances:
R
The radar sensorsare affected by snow, rain,
fog, heavy spray, glare, direct sunlight or
greatlyvarying ambientlight.
R
The radar sensorsmay malfunction in parking
garagesoronroads withsteep uphill or
downhill gradients.
R
If theradar sensorsare dirty or covered.
R
On icy or slipperyroads, braking or accelerat‐
ing can causethe drivewheels to lose trac‐
tion and thevehicle could then skid.
R
Stationaryobjectsare notdetected if these
were notpreviouslydetected as moving.
R
On bends, target vehicles maybelostornot
recognized correctly. As aresult, atarget
vehicle is notused to regulatethe speed
whichmay lead to unwanted acceleration.
Do notuse ActiveDistance Assist DISTRONICin
these situations.
