Printer problems
The printer will not turn on.
The printer is turned on but will not print.
The printer prints garbled text.
Probable cause Solution
The printer is not plugged in Make sure the power cable is plugged into a
working power source.
The printer is not turned on Make sure the printer power switch is set to the
on position. When you turn on the printer, the
green power LED lights.
The printer is defective Try another printer, if one is available.
Probable cause Solution
The printer is not connected
to the computer
Make sure the data cable is properly
connected between the printer and the
computer. Check the connector and cable for
bent or broken pins.
The printer is not designated
as the default printer
If the printer that you are trying to print to is
not the default printer, make sure you have
selected it through the program’s printer setup
function.
The printer has not been
added to the computer.
In the Printers window (Start | Settings |
Printers), double-click Add Printer. Follow the
on-screen instructions for adding the new
printer.
The printer is not on-line
(ready)
Make sure the on-line or ready light is on, or
the display indicates “Ready.”
Probable cause Solution
The wrong driver is being
used for the selected printer
In the Printers window (Start | Settings |
Printers), select the printer. From the File
menu, select Properties. Make sure the
printer is using the correct printer driver. If not,
install the correct one.
