The primary components of the HeartWare
™
HVAD
™
System (excluding the Monitor) are intended for single
patient use.
STERILE: All HeartWare implantable components, surgical
tools and accessories used at implant are provided
sterile.
2.1 HVAD
®
Pump and Surgical Tools
The HeartWare
™
HVAD
™
System consists of a blood pump
graft, and a percutaneous driveline. A strain relief is
wrapped with woven polyester fabric to encourage
tissue in-growth at the skin exit site. The small, wearless
pump has a displaced volume of 50cc and weighs 160
grams. The pump has one moving part, an impeller, which
two motors in the pump housing with one motor providing
redundancy.

Pump
to the aorta. A sewing ring attaches to the myocardium
and allows for pump orientation adjustments
allow for pericardial placement, which eliminates the
need for abdominal surgery and device pockets
(Figure 24).
