Checking the Steering system
Check the steering Column for excessive
play up and down, and side to side. If the
clearance is too much replace the steering
column bearing.
Check the Tie rod ends.
Look for wear, damage or excessive play.
Check the Ball joints, A-arms and wheel
bearings.
Look for excessive play.
Adjusting the Toe
In
Place the vehicle on a flat surface.
Place a white chalk mark at the center of
the tread design on both front tires.
Lift the front end off the ground and
position the two white marks to the front of
the the vehicle and lower the vehicle back
down onto the ground.
Measure the distance between the two
white marks.
Lift the front end off the ground and rotate
the wheels 180 degrees so that the white
marks are now facing the rear of the
vehicle and lower the vehicle back down to
the ground.
Measure the distance between the two
white marks.
The front measurement should be
8-18mm smaller than the rear
measurement.
Mark both tie-rod ends, for a reference
point.
Loosen Locknut (1) and adjust by turning
the tie-rod (2). Make sure to adjust each
side equally to keep the length of the rods
the same.
When you have adjusted to the correct
specification, lock down the locknuts.
Locknut (rod end)
40 Nm (4.0 m · kg, 29 ft · lb)
