Cleaning the Air Filter
Note:
There is a check hose ② at the bottom
of the air filter case. If dust and/or water
collect in this hose, clean the air filter
element and air filter case.
Remove
• Driver’s seat
• Passenger’s seat
• Console
• Air filter case cover (3)
Remove the air filter:
• Air filter holder (1)
• Air filter check hose (2)
• Air filter case cover (3)
• Air filter element (4)
Note:
Never operate the engine with the air
filter element removed. This will allow
unfiltered air to enter, causing rapid
wear and possible engine damage.
Additionally, operation without the
filter element will affect tuning with
subsequent poor performance and
possible engine overheating.
Inspect the air filter element
• Air filter Insert (1)
• Filter (2)
• Element retaining plate (3)
Clean the air filter by washing it gently, but
thoroughly in solvent designed for air
filters.
Note:
Never use gasoline or low flash point
solvents as they may cause a fire or
explosion.
Squeeze the excess solvent out of the
filter and allow it to air dry. Do not twist or
wring out the element because this could
damage the foam material.
Place the element inside a plastic bag with
some engine oil and squeeze the oil into
the element. The element should be wet
but not dripping.
Install the filter element and air filter case
cover. Be sure everything is seated well to
prevent air leaks and reinstall the console,
passenger’s seat and driver’s seat.
