Periodic Maintenance
3-5
Note
The valve clearance must be adjusted
when the engine is cool to the touch.
Adjust the valve clearance when the
piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on
the compression stroke.
• Remove the Driver’s seat
• Remove the Passenger’s seat
• Remove the console
1. Remove the following parts:
• Spark plug (1)
• Cylinder cover (2)
• Crankshaft position sensor
(3)
• Inspection hole cover (4)
• Bolt M6 X 10 (5)
Check the valve clearance
Rotate the crankshaft while watching the
rocker arms on the front cylinder. The
intake valve opens and closes the piston is
coming up to TDC Compression. Watch
inside the inspection hole for the timing
mark 1 to align. Valve adjustment can be
checked on cylinder 1 now. With cylinder 1
completed now rotate the crankshaft
approximately 280°and watch for the
timing mark 2 inside the inspection hole.
This should set cylinder 2 at TDCC. Valve
adjustment can now be checked on
cylinder 2.
Adjustment
• Loosen the locknut (1)
• Turn the adjuster (2) to achieve
proper clearance using a feeler
gauge (3) of the proper thickness.
• Retighten the locknut (4) to hold
your setting.
• Recheck with the feeler gauge to
make sure your adjustment has not
changed.
