To upgrade a model HNAS 4060 to a model HNAS 4080, you add a license. You cannot
upgr
ade a model
HNAS 4060 or model HNAS 4080 to a model HNAS 4100.
In a HNAS 4080 cluster conguration, when the node joins the cluster, the node software
automatically upgrades from HNAS 4060 to HNAS 4080.
The upgrade process is outside the scope of this document and documented separately.

MAC ID and license keys
The replacement server will have a new MAC ID. The new ID forces the need for new
license keys regardless whether it is a single node or complete cluster replacement.
As part of a eld replacement process, Hitachi Vantara recommends that temporary keys
be obtained to enable quick delivery and implementation. However, any temporary keys
used must eventually be replaced with a permanent key. This is required for all eld
scenarios, except when replacing a single node in a cluster.

span-allow-access command to attach the stor
age when the MAC ID
changes.
Previous backups
A system backup pr

The backup form for an embedded SMU is dierent than one from an external SMU.
Depending on the r
eplacement scenario se
verity, dierent limitations might exist for the
system recovery.
Important: It is assumed that customers are fr
equently establishing backups
somewhere safely o the platform for recovery purposes. If there is no
backup, and the system to be replaced is nonfunctional, then a manual
recovery process is required to reestablish a functional system. The duration
of this manual recovery is directly related to the complexity of the original
conguration. All data and le systems are preserved independent of a
backup.
Upgrades
Replacement servers can be do

ve a revision, and not at the expected level of
rmware required at the customer site. An upgrade is typically required during the
r
eplacement pr
ocess, which is not covered in this document. It is assumed that all
services personnel performing a replacement have already been trained, and know
where to get this information within their respective organization.
