DDR4 memory speeds correlate to mode and channel population.
Performance mode population guidelines
For Performance mode memory configurations, observe the following guidelines:
• Populate DIMMs according to the DIMM population table for Performance mode.
• DIMMs may be installed individually. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends installing DIMMs in
pairs.
Lockstep population guidelines
For Lockstep memory mode configuration, observe the following guidelines:
• All memory cartridges must be populated identically across all processors.
• Populate DIMMs according to the DIMM population guidelines for Lockstep mode.
• Lockstep memory bandwidth is reduced approximately in half for DDDC error correction
architecture, compared to Performance mode.
• Initially, install four DIMMs in 4A, 9B, 1C, and 12D for performance. Thereafter, install DIMMs in pairs
alternating between boards A & B in the following order:
o 5E, 2G
o 8F, 11H
o 6J, 3L
o 7K, 10M
Online Spare memory mode population guidelines
For Online Spare memory mode configuration, observe the following guidelines:
• Populate DIMMs according to the DIMM population guidelines for Performance or Lockstep memory
modes.
• Each memory channel must have a valid online spare configuration.
• Each populated channel must have a spare rank:
o A single dual-rank DIMM is not a valid sparing configuration.
o Two or more multi-rank DIMMs are recommended per channel.
o All LRDIMMs (dual-, quad-, octal-rank) are treated as dual-rank DIMMs.
Mirrored Memory population guidelines
To configure memory for Mirrored Memory mode, observe these additional constraints:
