7 Operation
7.1 PreStartup
7.1.1 Powerup
A. EnsurethesystemOn/OffSwitchselectorisinthe“O”position.
B. TurntheMainDisconnectHandle tothe“On”position.
NOTE
ThePLCcontrollerwillturnonandgothroughanautomaticselftest.Whentheselftestiscomplete,the
controllerwillbegintomonitorthesystem,butthechillerwillnotstart.
7.1.2 FaultCheck
Oncethechillerispoweredon,anyactivealarmsorwarningswillbedisplayedonthecontrollerafteritsstartup
andselftestsequencesarecomplete.Toaccessthealarmlist,presstheAlarmButtononthecontroller.
Mostchilleralarmsindicateaconditionthatpreventsthechillerand/orplasmacutti
ngsystemfromoperating
safely.WhenthisisthecasethechillercontrollerdeactivatestheplasmacuttingsystemChillerOKinterlock
circuitandilluminatesthe“ChillerFaul t” light(red)nexttothecontroller.
7.1.2.1 SensorCheck
Uponpowerup,thecontrollerwillbeginmonitoring thechillersystemforproperoperation.Ifany
sensorsreadopen,short,oroutofrange,th
econtrollerwilldisplaywarningmessagesonthescreen
andthecontrolleralarmwillsound.
7.1.2.2 PhaseMonitor
Thechillerisequippedwithaphasemonitorwhichchecksforproperphasingandphaseimbalance.If
theincomingpowerlineconnectionstothemaincircuitbreakerdi
sconnectarenotconnectedproperly
orifthereismorethana10%imbalancebetweenphasesthecontrollerwilldisplaya“PhaseMonitor
Alarm”(AL26)uponpowerup.Tocorrectaphasemonitoralarm,swapanytwophasesontheincoming
powerlineconnectionstothechillerMainCircuitBreakerDisconnect.Iftheph
asemonitoralarmdoes
notgoawayafterswappingthephaseleads,apowerconditionermayneedtobeinstalled.
7.1.3 Settin gtheLinePowe rFrequency
Ifthechillerisinstalledinacountrythatuses50Hzelectricalpower,thesetpointforthe“OperatingFrequency”
willneedtobechangedfromitsdefaul tvalueof60Hzto50Hz.TochangethefrequencyrefertoFigure31in
Section8.7.The“OperatingFrequency”setpoint is onlyusedtocalcula
tethetheoretical compressorcapacity
showninFigure14ofSection8.5.Itdoesnotaffectthechillerperformance.
7.1.4 CompressorWarmup
OncetheMainDisconnectHandle on thechilleristurnedon,powerissuppliedtocrankcaseheatersonthe
compressorcrankcase.Thecrankcaseheatersheattheoilinthecompressorcrankcasestoensurethatthereis
noliquidrefrigeranthascondensedinthecrankcaseoil.Allowthechillertositforatleast8hour
swiththe
MainDisconnectHandleinthe“On”position,priortoturningonthechillerwiththeLocal/Off/RemoteSwitch.
Table7providesalistofrecommendedwarmuptimesbasedonhowlongtheMainDisconnectHandlehas
beenintheoffposition.

