This procedure includes the following:

Permanent Axles
1. Remove the dust cap, hex screw and locknut that
secure the large wheel to the wheelchair.
2. Repeat STEP 1 for the opposite large wheel.
3. To reinstall the large wheels onto the wheelchair,
reverse STEP 1.
REMOVING/INSTALLING THE LARGE
WHEELS (FIGURE 1)
Quick-Release Axles
1. Push in the tip of the quick-release axle (with
wheel) and pull the axle out through the open-
ing in the center of the large wheel.
2. Push in the tip of the quick-release axle again
and pull the axle out of the large wheel.
3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 for the opposite large wheel.
4. To reinstall the large wheels onto the wheelchair,
reverse STEPS 1-2.
WARNING
Make sure the detent pin and locking pins of
the quick-release axle are fully released BE-
FORE operating the wheelchair.
The locking pins MUST be protruding past the
inside of the large wheel axle bushing for a posi-
tive lock.
Keep locking pins clean.
Invacare recommends inserting quick-release
axles with the head end to the inside of the
wheelchair to prevent accidental release dur-
ing contact activities.
5. If the locking pins are not protruding past the
inside of the axle bushing or there is too much
movement of the large wheel assembly in a back
and forth position, refer to ADJUSTING THE
QUICK-RELEASE AXLE in this section of the
manual.
WARNING
After making adjustments, always make sure
that parts are properly tightened BEFORE us-
ing the wheelchair.

ADJUSTING THE QUICK-RELEASE AXLE
(FIGURE 2)
1. Remove large wheel and quick-release axle
from the wheelchair.
2. Depress detent pin in the quick-release axle and
slide axle through the wheel hub.
