MV & LV SERIES ENGINEERED DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM
OPERATION, DESIGN, & SERVICE MANUAL
REV C
Document # DOC324
Issued: April 26, 2018
Revised: March 22, 2022
UL FILE # EX27541
Section 1 General Information
e Janus Fire Systems® Mv and Lv Series Engineered Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishing System is supported
in conjunction with the Janus Design Suite® Flow Calculation Software. e Janus Design Suite® software
will provide a calculation report that will include details and information on the performance of the piping
network. If any limitations of the software or nozzles are exceeded, warning statements will appear on the
calculation report indicating what needs to be revised.
1.1 Listings and Approvals
When designed and installed according to the information contained in this manual, the Janus Fire Systems®
Mv and Lv Series Engineered Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishing Systems are Underwriters Laboratories
Inc. (UL) listed for the following hazard protection:
General Purpose and Industrial Hazards
Class A, B, and C total flooding protection
Class B local application protection
1
Class A, B, and/or C special design nozzles as noted and detailed in this manual
Any combination of above noted
Open Face Spray Booths,
Vehicle Paint Spray Booths
NOTE: It is important to note that Janus Fire Systems® nozzles have been UL tested for use in specific
applications such as screening nozzles for open face paint spray booths and may also be used in general total
flooding purposes in conjunction with the total flooding nozzles.
All dry chemical extinguishing systems certified by UL must meet the same test requirements for applicable
fire tests and component functional/material based tests under ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 1254, regardless of
whether the design philosophy for the system uses the pre-engineered or engineered methodology.
System equipment has been verified through testing to function at ambient temperatures ranging from
-40°F (-40°C) to 130°F (54°C). Flow calculations have been verified at ambient temperatures of 70°F ±10°
(21.1°C ±5.5°). Storage outside of the range of 70°F ±10° (21.1°C ±5.5°) may result in inaccurate flow
calculations and may cause one or more nozzles to not discharge the calculated quantity of dry chemical.
Table 1.1 - System Temperature Limitations
Local Application, Overhead 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 49°C)
Tankside -20°F to 120°F (-29°C to 49°C)
Total Flood -40°F to 120°F (-40°C to 49°C)
Vehicle Paint Spray Booths -20°F to 120°F (-29°C to 49°C)
Open Paint Spray Booths -20°F to 120°F (-29°C to 49°C)
1
UL only lists dry chemical local applications for Class B hazards. UL 1254 does not test local applications for Class A or Class
C hazards.
