Section 2 System Components and Description
2.6 Discharge Nozzles
e Janus Fire Systems® Engineered Dry Chemical System utilizes both fixed orifice type nozzles and
engineered orifice type nozzles as described in the subsections below. All dry chemical nozzles referenced in
this manual can be designed and installed in unbalanced piping arrangements. All dry chemical discharge
nozzles are for indoor use only.
2.6.1 FixedOriceNozzles
ere are seven different types of Dry Chemical fixed orifice type nozzles, each designed for a specific
purpose.
2.6.1.1 Local Application, Overhead (LAOH) Nozzle
P/N 16216 (See Figure 2.6.1.1)
e nozzle is designed for Local Application of Dry Chemical Agent from
directly overhead the fire hazard. It has a 3/4" (20 mm) MNPT pipe connection.
e LAOH Nozzle ships with a blow-off cap (P/N 14988). NOTE: UL only lists
dry chemical local applications for Class B hazards. UL 1254 does not test local
applications for Class A or Class C hazards.
2.6.1.2 Tankside (TS) Nozzle
P/N 16170 (See Figure 2.6.1.2)
is nozzle is designed for Local Application of Dry Chemical Agent across the
surface of the hazard, from the side rather than overhead. It has a 3/4" (20 mm)
MNPT pipe connection. e TS Nozzle ships with a blow-off cap. (P/N 14988).
NOTE: UL only lists dry chemical local applications for Class B hazards. UL
1254 does not test local applications for Class A or Class C hazards.
2.6.1.3 Total Flood (TF) Nozzle
P/N 16172 (See Figure 2.6.1.3)
is nozzle is designed for Total Flooding Application of Dry Chemical Agent
into an enclosure with no more than 5% total unclosable openings. It is suited
for and recognized by UL for use in General Purpose and Industrial Hazards,
Vehicle Paint Spray Booth, Open Front Spray Booth, and Duct and Plenum
applications. It has a 3/4" (20 mm) MNPT pipe connection. e TF Nozzle ships
with a blow-off cap (P/N 14988).
