Section 2 System Components and Description
2.1 Cylinder Assembly
e cylinder assembly consists of the cylinder, dip tube, and cylinder valve.
2.1.1 Cylinder
e dry chemical agent is stored as a powder inside a welded steel cylinder. e cylinders are then pressurized
with dry nitrogen to a pressure of 500 psig (34.48 bar) at 70°F (21°C). Each cylinder is filled to its intended
capacity. (See Table 2.1.1 for a list of available capacities).
Standard domestic cylinders are manufactured according to the requirements of the U.S. Department
of Transportation (USDOT) and Transport Canada¹ (TC) for compressed gas and are fitted with an
identification label indicating the fill quantity of dry chemical agent. Each cylinder has internal neck threads
to allow for connection to the cylinder valve.
1 1000 lb Cylinders are not Transport Canada approved, but utilize DOT 4BW500 cylinders that are accepted in Canada.

2.1.1.1 Rupture Disc
A frangible rupture disc is fitted to the Lv Series cylinder body. It functions as an emergency relief device in
the event of excessive internal pressure within the cylinder. Its rupture point is between 850 psi (58.6 bar)
and 1000 psi (68.9 bar).
is feature is not found on the Mv Series cylinder. Instead, a rupture disc is located on the side of the Mv
Series cylinder valve as detailed in section 2.1.3.1.
2.1.1.2 Pressure Vent Port
e pressure vent port is located on the cylinder body. It is used in conjunction with a cylinder venting kit
(P/N 97641) to release nitrogen from a filled cylinder in the event the agent fill port must be opened.
2.1.1.3 Agent Fill Port
e agent fill port is located at the top of the cylinder. It is used to fill the cylinder with ABC dry chemical
agent.
