Dangers during use
Warning 1
Risk of eye injuries
Do not look through the instrument optics while the
i
nstrument self-test is in progress.
Do not use the device until the instrument self-test is
completed.
Warning 2
Risk of eye injuries
When lasers are used in combination with the
Leica HM500 microscope, it is the responsibility of the
user (laser safety officer) to ensure that eye protection
is sufficient and safe.
For safety reasons, the protection class of the laser
safety glasses must be raised two classes (in accor-
dance with EN207) when standard eyepieces or inter-
changeable eyepieces I or II are used.
Caution 3
Danger of damage to the electronics
Always connect the data cable first and then switch
on the instrument.
Always switch off the instrument before disconnecting
the data cable.
Never plug or unplug the data cable when the green
light in the charge level indicator is on.
Warning 4
Risk of eye injuries
Before starting up the Leica MLS500 light source make
sure that nobody will be dazzled by the light-emitting
optics on the headset.
Never look directly into the light outlets of the Leica
HM500 microscope, the Leica MLS500 light source or
the fiber-optic light guide when the instrument is in
operation.
Never direct the light beam directly onto the eye.
Never use the Leica MLS500 light source for eye
surgery or surgical procedures which require direct
illumination of the eye.
With the Leica MLS500 light source switched on and
the fiber-optic light guide unplugged, reduce the
brightness control of the light source to the minimum
level.
Warning 5
Risk of burn injuries
Never operate the fiber-optic light guide without
m
icroscope optics.
Never touch the fiber-optic light guide plug once it has
been unplugged from the Leica MLS500 light source.
Always let the plug cool down.
Switch off the Leica MLS500 light source before
pulling out the fiber-optic light guide.
After use, unplug the fiber-optic light guide from the
Leica MLS500 light source to prevent light accidentally
being emitted from the optical outlet end of the fiber-
optic light guide.
Do not use a damaged or kinked fiber-optic light guide.
Warning 6
Risk to patients from failure of the Leica MLS500 light
source
Change the lamp before the end of its theoretical
service life.
Warning 7
Risk of explosion
Do not use the Leica MLS500 light source in areas
subject to explosion hazards.
Do not use the Leica MLS500 light source with flam-
mable mixtures such as anesthetics, oxygen or disin-
fectants.
Caution 8
Risk of fire damage
Keep a distance of at least 250 mm between the
microscope outlet optics and other objects.
