Care and Maintenance
39Leica HM500/Ref. 10 715 697/Version B
Leica MLS500 light source
• Before cleaning, disconnect the Leica MLS500 light source
from the power supply and allow it to cool for at least 15 min-
u
tes.
• For cleaning use only a cloth, moistened with (soapy) water
or 70 % ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, but not under any cir-
cumstances combustible or flammable liquids.
• Allow the instrument to dry well before using it.
• If liquid gets accidentally into the instrument, unplug the
power supply cable immediately and take the instrument to
the service location.
• Carefully remove any dust which may have collected at the
vent openings.
Fiber-optic light guide
• If deposits, dirt or fluff have accumulated at the end of the
fiber-optic light guide, clean it with a soft cloth and distilled
water.
Leica HM500 trolley
• The Leica HM500 trolley should be cleaned with a neutral
cleaning agent and disinfected with a surface disinfectant
or 30 % alcohol.
• Note that electrical equipment placed on the Leica HM500
trolley should not get wet.
Maintenance and repair
Leica HM500
• From a technical point of view, the Leica HM500 does not
require any kind of preventive maintenance. However, to opti-
mize the service life of the Leica HM500, Leica Microsystems
(Schweiz) AG recommends that it be cleaned and maintained
at the manufacturer or at locations authorized by Leica.
• Repairs may be carried out only by authorized Leica employ-
ees or by partner companies authorized by Leica. Disman-
tling, modifying or using third-party (that is, not authorized by
Leica) components or spare parts, accessories and so on in
the instrument will render void the warranty and any other
claims.
Leica MLS500 light source
• The owner must comply with national legislation and stan-
dards with regard to regular inspection.
•
An inspection must be carried out at least every 2 years and
only by specialists who can assess the safety of the device,
recognize possible effects and hazards, and determine con-
formity with the guidelines and standards.
• These inspections must include at minimum a protective
ground check, leakage current check, visual inspection with
cleaning and a function test.
• Only original spare parts may be used. If this is not the case,
personal injury or damage to property may result. If neces-
sary, contact your Leica dealership.
Leica HM500 trolley
• The Leica HM500 trolley has two twin castors with wheel
locks at the front. Before using the trolley, make sure both
wheel locks are working properly. Make sure the wheel locks
have been released before moving the Leica HM500 trolley.
The twin castors may otherwise work free with time and thus
cause a dangerous situation.
• Carry out a safety inspection of the castors every 6 months. If
they have become loose, you should contact your Leica
dealer immediately.
• The monitor shelf should be checked regularly to see
whether it swivels and tilts easily without too much play.
• The mounting screws on the shelves should be checked reg-
ularly and tightened up if necessary. The shelves should be
stable and flat.
• Although all precautionary measures have been taken to
ensure the maximum stability of this product, pay attention to
unevenness in the floor, elevator door frames, cables and so
on in order to prevent accidents. To secure stability during
transportation, the monitor should be removed and trans-
ported separately.
• Check for safety and proper function (every 6 months): Check
the multiple socket outlets and power cable for damage and
proper seating. If you discover any problems during these
checks, contact your Leica dealer immediately.
