Leica HM500/Ref. 10 715 697/Version B
➩Pull out the plug (101).
When changing lamps always use the mounting aid
(100) since this offers better protection against damag-
ing the lamp base!
➩Loosen the mounting aid (100) from its holder (98) and insert it
into the hole (99) in the lamp holder (103).
➩Press on the lamp holder (103) and release the two clamps
(104).
➩Grasp the defective lamp at the lamp holder (103) and
carefully pull it out of the Leica MLS500 light source.
Ensure that the glass bulb does not touch anything.
➩Remove the mounting aid (100) from the lamp holder.
➩Open the packaging of the new lamp.
➩Hold the new lamp by its metal base and carefully pull the
protective sheath (108) along the lamp axis and off the glass
bulb. Do not twist or bend it!
When pulling the protective sheath (108) off, to avoid
breaking the glass bulb, do not twist or bend the
sheath.
Do not take the new lamp out of its packaging until just
before you install it in the light source.
Replace the old lamp in its original packaging immedi-
ately after you remove it from the light source. Always
transport lamps in their original packaging. Dispose of
them properly in accordance with national legislation.
➩Using the mounting aid, carefully insert the new lamp.
The new lamp is installed in the reverse sequence of operations
to removal of the lamp.
Note that the actual service life of the lamp can, in some cases,
differ significantly from that specified in the data sheet. Lamps
are subject to manufacturing tolerances; most importantly,
however, switching the lamp on and off frequently will
decrease its service life dramatically. For example, if you need
to use the light source briefly three times in an hour, it is gener-
ally better for the service life of the lamp not to switch it on and
off, but to keep it on for the entire time. Switching it on once
can cost up to 2 hours of service life. Therefore, it is possible
that the lamp will no longer be able to be lit even before the end
of its specified service life and will need to be replaced (in that
case, the message "bulb FAIL" appears in the display).
When the end of the service life is reached, the instrument
switches off with the message "rEPLAcE bulb" and a new lamp
has to be installed. The light source can be operated again only
after the lamp is replaced and the running-time meter is reset.
