Timing Belt Inspection
Replace timing belt if any of the following conditions are found:
• Cracks in the back of the belt or in the base of the belt teeth.
• Excessive wear at the roots of the cogs.
• Rubber portion swollen by oil.
• Belt surfaces roughened.
• Signs of wear on edges or outer surfaces of belt.
Timing Belt Removal
WARNING
Engine could possibly start when turning flywheel during removal and installation.
To prevent this type of accidental engine starting and possible serious injury, al-
ways remove spark plug leads from spark plugs.
1. Disconnect spark plug leads from spark plugs.
2. Hold flywheel using flywheel holder (91-83163M). Remove nut and washer.
