3 Removal and Disassembly
15
Meritor Maintenance Manual MM-15103 (Issued 07-17)
If you need to replace the pinion bearings: Use a
suitable puller to remove the inner and outer bearing cups
from the carrier.
9. Remove the shims from the carrier.
If the shims are in good condition: Keep the shims
together for use when the carrier is assembled.
If the shims are to be discarded because of damage:
First measure the total thickness of the pack. Make a note
of the dimension. You will need the dimension to calculate
the depth of the drive pinion in the carrier when the gear set
is installed.
10. Remove the bearing spacer and variable spacer from the pinion
shaft. Figure 3.31.
If you need to replace the pinion bearings: Use a press
or bearing puller to remove the inner bearing cone from the
drive pinion. The puller must fit under the inner race of the
cone to remove the cone correctly without damage.
