4-4 | Model 933 UV Analyzer
Starting the Congurator Software and Establishing
Communication Between the Analyzer and Computer
This section discusses how to start the Configurator Software and estab-
lish communications with the analyzer. Before beginning, you should
have already installed the analyzer and the Configurator Software, as
explained in Chapter 3. This section assumes the analyzer is running.
Hazardous Locations
Before proceeding, test the area around the analyzer for explosive
gases and proceed only when the area is found to be safe.
Do not remove the cover of the Explosion-Proof Digital Communica-
tions Port on the front of the Ex d Lower Enclosure, do not connect a
serial cable to the Communications Port, do not open the Upper/Low-
er Enclosures, and do not power up/down the analyzer or computer if
there is an explosive gas atmosphere present.
To establish communication between the analyzer and computer:
1. Connect a serial cable between the computer and the analyzer’s Com-
munications Port. Power up the analyzer and computer, and start the
Configurator Software using one of two methods:
• Click M933 Configurator from the Start\Programs\AMETEK\933
Configurator menu.
• Click the M933 Configurator icon on the computer’s desktop.
2. The software will start and the Devices & Log window will appear
in the M933 Configurator window (Figures 4-4 and 4-5). From here,
select Device Properties from the Edit menu to view the M933 Prop-
erties dialog box (General tab, Figure 4-1).
The M933 Properties dialog box will be your main interface when
working on the analyzer or viewing live data.
By default, Live Data is enabled. When this is enabled, the software
automatically attempts to establish communication with the analyzer.
If the communication attempt fails, the communication settings may
be incorrect and/or the serial cable may not be connected properly (or
it may be damaged), or you may be attempting to communicate with
the wrong model of analyzer. See “Configurator Software Trouble-
shooting” in this chapter for information about how to resolve com-
munication problems.
