Multiple Types of
Drive Trays
NOTE Before you create a topology that combines multiple models of drive trays,
make sure that your controller tray or controller-drive tray supports this feature. You
must configure the controller tray or controller-drive tray to support multiple models
of drive trays.
You can combine multiple drive tray models in a single storage array topology. Keep
the following rules and guidelines in mind when you plan to connect your storage
array with more than one drive tray type:
To achieve maximum throughput performance, distribute drive trays across
redundant drive channels in a controller tray or a controller-drive tray.
Configure FC2610 drive trays and FC4600 drive trays (SBODs) in series as
described in "Connecting to Drive Trays That Support Loop Switch
Technology" on page 22.
Do not create multiple series of FC2610 drive trays and FC4600 drive trays
(SBODs) that are separated by AT2655 SATA drive trays.
Whenever possible, and with consideration of the previously stated rules and
guidelines, place all like drive trays on the same drive channel.
When you connect drive trays to a CE7900 controller tray, do not mix multiple
type of drive trays on the same loop.
Connect only DE1600 drive trays and DE5600 drive trays to a E2600
controller-drive tray.
Connect only DE1600 drive trays, DE5600 drive trays, and DE6600 drive trays
to a E5400 controller-drive tray. E5400 controller-drive trays include the E5412,
E5424, and E5460 models.
Do not exceed the maximum number of drives that a storage array can support.
When you connect drive trays to a controller-drive tray, keep in mind that the
drives installed in the controller-drive tray count toward the maximum number of
drives.
Do not connect more than 15 drive trays of any type to a E5400 controller-drive
tray.
The following tables summarizes the supported combinations of controller trays or
cont
roller-drive trays with drive trays.
