3. Setting up a variable
1. Click D
ata’ in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select ‘Variables’. A
dialog box will open. Click the ‘N
ew’ button. Another dialog box will open.
2. Click on the A
dvanced’ button at the bottom left of the dialog box. (Note: If
the B
asic << Tab is showing you are already in the Advanced dialogue
mode.)
3. Select the General’ tab. Enter a name for the label in the ‘Name’ field.
4. Adjust the length of the variable data (i.e. 01 would be 2 digits, 001 would be
3 digits, etc.) if needed.
5. Click on the Serialization’ tab. Select either ‘I
ncremental Counter’ or
‘D
ecremental Counter’ by clicking the appropriate button.
6. Step refers to the number of digits to go up or down in (i.e. 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, etc.)
Adjust as necessary by using the arrow button or by typing in number.
7. Change value after the number of labels is how many labels will be printed
before the label increments/decrements. Adjust as necessary by using the
up/down arrow buttons or by typing in the number.
8. If a prefix or suffix is required, click on the ‘Data Processing’ tab and enter
the information in the relevant box.
9. Click on Prompting’ tab. In the ‘Display this text to the printer operator’
field typeenter start number’. This is a visual aid to signal where to enter
the starting number.
10. Click ‘OK’.
4. Adding a variable to the label
1. Click on the ‘down arrow’ to the right of the ‘Text’ button for text only or the
‘Barcode’ tool (depending if you are doing just text or a barcode variable).
2. Select Use Existing Variable’. Select the variable you created.
3. Click in the label. The variable will appear.
4. Adjust the size accordingly.
5. Editing Barcodes
Make adjustments to barcodes such as the style of barcode, removing the check
digit, amending the size of the text beneath the barcode or hiding the text to
show just the barcode.
