Adjusting the Exposure Compensation
Your camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically. However, if the subject is very dark or very
bright, you may override the camera’s automatic exposure determination to make the subject brighter or darker.
This is called “EV compensation”.
1. Rotate the mode dial to one of [ M ] Manual mode, [ Av ] Aperture Priority
mode, [ Tv ] Shutter Speed Priority or [ P ] Program mode.
2. Power on your camera.
3. Press the [ ] menu button.
4. Select “EV” by using the / buttons, then press the button.
5. Change the settings with the / buttons and press the button again to
confirm .
The EV compensation can be adjusted from [-2.0 EV] to [+2.0 EV].
The setting range is as follows:
+2.0 +1.5 +1.0 +0.5 +0.0 -0.5 -1.0 -1.5 -2.0
6. To exit from the menu mode, press the [ ] menu button.
7. Compose your picture.
8. Press the shutter button.
Effective Subjects and Set Values
Positive (+) Compensation
* Copying of printed text (black characters on white paper)
* Backlit portraits
* Very bright scenes (such as snowfields) and highly reflective subjects
* Shots made up predominantly of sky
Negative (-) Compensation
* Spotlit subjects, particularly against dark backgrounds
* Imaging of printed text (white characters on black paper)
* Scenes with low reflectivity, such as shots of green or dark foliage
