Overview

The Nytech DS-5200 is a digital camera designed for capturing still images, movie clips, and voice recordings. It features both optical and digital zoom capabilities, a range of shooting modes, and various image adjustment options.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Nytech DS-5200 is to capture still images and record movie clips with audio. It also allows for voice recording. The camera is equipped with internal memory (25MB) and supports SD/MMC cards for expanded storage. Images and videos are stored in DCF-compatible formats (JPEG for still images, MPEG-4 for video, WAV for audio), ensuring compatibility with other DCF-compatible cameras and printers.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: The camera can be turned on in Record mode by pressing the POWER button or in Playback mode by pressing the Play button. Power off is achieved by pressing the POWER button again. A silent startup option is available by holding the POWER or Play button for over 1.5 seconds.
  • Mode Switching: Users can switch between Record (still image, voice, movie) and Playback modes using the MODE button or the Play button.
  • Zoom Function: The camera offers both optical and digital zoom. The [W] button zooms out for wide-angle shots, and the [T] button zooms in for telephoto shots. Digital zoom engages automatically after optical zoom reaches its maximum. Digital zoom is not available during movie recording.
  • Flash Modes: Various flash modes (Auto, Red-eye reduction, Always on, Slow sync, Always off) can be cycled through using the flash button. Flash is only for still images.
  • Self-timer & Burst: The self-timer allows for 2-second or 10-second delays before shooting, or a double shot (10 and 12 seconds). Burst mode captures 4 continuous still images. A tripod is recommended for self-timer use.
  • Macro Mode: For close-up subjects, macro mode allows focusing from 10 cm (wide-angle) to 80 cm (telephoto).
  • Scene Modes: Specific shooting conditions can be optimized using scene modes such as Program, Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Kids, Beach & Snow, Backlight, Close-up, ID Photo, Fireworks, and Sunset.
  • Resolution & Quality: Users can adjust image resolution and quality settings to manage file size and storage.
  • Movie Size: Movie clips can be recorded in different sizes (640x480, 320x240, 160x128) suitable for TV, PC, or web use.
  • Stabilizer: This feature helps reduce camera shake during video recording, especially when moving. It requires an inserted memory card.
  • White Balance: Adjustments for various lighting conditions (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent H/L, Custom) ensure accurate color reproduction.
  • ISO Sensitivity: ISO settings (Auto, 50, 100, 200) can be adjusted based on ambient light, with lower ISO for cleaner images.
  • Exposure & Metering: The camera offers center-weighted, multi, and spot metering options for precise exposure control.
  • Photo Effects: Special effects like Black & White, Sepia, Negative Art, Mosaic, Red, Green, and Blue can be applied to images. Mosaic effect is only available in playback mode.
  • Date Stamp: The date and/or time can be added to pictures at the time of capture.
  • LCD Monitor: The LCD displays various indicators during recording (mode, flash, macro, self-timer/burst, zoom, battery, storage media, focus area, shake warning, shots remaining, aperture, shutter speed, metering, exposure, ISO, white balance, sharpness, quality, resolution) and playback (mode, protect, voice memo, file number/total, battery, storage media, capture date & time, resolution). The display mode can be changed using the DISP button.
  • Playback Features:
    • Thumbnail View: Allows viewing all stored images in a grid format.
    • Magnifying & Trimming: Still images can be magnified and trimmed.
    • Movie Clip Playback: Recorded movie clips can be played, paused, and stopped.
    • Voice Memo Playback: Recorded voice memos can be played, paused, and stopped.
    • Slide Show: Images can be displayed in a slide show with adjustable intervals (1-10 seconds) and repeat options. Not available for movie clips or voice recordings.
  • Editing Images:
    • Rotating: Still images can be rotated by various degrees.
    • Resizing: Large still images can be resized to smaller resolutions.
    • Stickers: Funny stickers can be added to still images, with options to move and rotate them.
  • DPOF Setting: Allows selecting images for printing and specifying the number of copies in advance, useful for photo developing services or direct print compatible printers.
  • Copy to Card: Data from internal memory can be copied to an inserted memory card.
  • TV Out: The camera can be connected to a TV (NTSC/PAL) to preview images and movie clips. The camera's LCD turns off during video output.
  • USB Port: Connects the camera to a PC or printer.
  • Startup Image: A recorded image can be chosen as the camera's startup image.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Charging: The NP-40 rechargeable battery needs to be charged before use. Normal charging time is about 230 minutes. Only the original Techcharm NP-40 battery and Nytech AB-NP40 charger should be used.
  • Low Battery Indicator: An icon appears on the LCD when the battery is nearly exhausted, prompting replacement.
  • Memory Card Insertion/Removal: SD or MMC cards can be inserted into the battery compartment.
  • File Management:
    • Deleting Files: Single images or all files can be deleted via the Playback Menu or a dedicated button.
    • Protecting Files: Images can be protected to prevent accidental deletion.
    • File Numbering: The camera automatically creates folders (e.g., 100DICAM) and names files sequentially (e.g., DSCI0001.JPG). File numbering can be reset.
    • Formatting Memory: Internal memory or memory cards can be formatted to erase all data, including protected files. Users are advised to download important files before formatting.
  • Setup Settings:
    • Adjusting Sounds: Startup sounds and volume can be adjusted.
    • Auto Review: Enables viewing a captured image for 3 or 5 seconds after shooting.
    • Power Save: Configures the LCD or camera to automatically turn off after 1, 3, or 5 minutes of inactivity to conserve power.
    • Language: The menu and information display language can be changed (English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Greek, Swedish).
    • Reset All: Resets all menu and button operation settings to initial defaults.
  • Software Installation: The bundled CD-ROM includes drivers for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, Ulead Photo Explorer 8 SE Basic for photo management, and VideoStudio 7 SE VCD for video editing.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as power failure, blurred images, memory card errors, and USB connection problems.
  • Disposal: The product is subject to European guideline 2002/96/EC, requiring separate disposal from household waste. Worn-out batteries should also be disposed of according to local regulations.
