2.4 Calibration
TheEPOCH 600canbeeasilycalibratedforbothzerooffsetandvelocityinorderto
provideaccuratethickness(soundpath)measurementsfromindications.The
EPOCH 600utilizesanautocalibrationsystemforasimple,twostepapproach.The
sectionbelowoutlinesthemoststandardandbasiccalibrationexam ple. More

2.4.1 Measurement calibration
Calibrationforaccuratedigitalmeasurementsistypicallyaccomplishedusingtwo
knownthicknessesofarepresentativematerial.Inthissection,thetermsTHINand
THICKwillbeusedtorefertoeithertwothicknesses ofablockorplate(straightbeam
calibrations)ortwolengthsofanangledsoundpath(anglebeamcalibration).
To begin calibration
1. Couplethetransducertothethinstepofthematerial.
2. Positiongate 1aroundtheresultingindicationonscreen.
3. Bringtheindicationto80 %fullscreenheightusingthe(AUTOXX%)function.
4. SelecttheAutoCalmenu(seeFigure 2 13onpage 40).
