APPENDIX 5: MICRODRIVE-i OPERATION FROM NON-STANDARD SUPPLIES
5D: UDi DC SUPPLY
In addition to operation from standard three phase mains
supplies, the Microdrive-i (UDi) may be operated at full power
directly from a DC supply. However, a separate three phase
supply is still required for the heatsink cooling fan.
Nominal DC supply voltage: 540650 Vdc
Max. DC supply voltage range: 450700 Vdc
Continuous DC input current: 1.2 x UDi rated current
Maximum DC input current: 1.7 x UDi rated current
Recommended DC fuse: 700Vdc; 2 x UDi rated current
DC should be connected via suitable isolation, DC fuse, and
appropriate soft charge to the DC bus terminals of the UDi -
positive to the positive DC bus terminal and negative to the
negative DC bus terminal. The heatsink cooling fan must be
supplied separately from a 400Vac three phase source.
Contact the supplier for more information on using a DC supply.
When the DC supply is livened the UDi will respond and perform
exactly as if supplied from the standard AC supply.
5E: UDi SINGLE PHASE AC SUPPLY
The Microdrive-i (UDi) maybe operated from a single phase
(two phase) supply, but the power rating must be reduced
to prevent overloading of the rectifier and DC power supply.
However, a separate three phase supply is still required for
the heatsink cooling fan. The UDi incorporates automatic
protection to prevent excessive load being drawn when
operating from a single phase supply. Such an overload will
cause the UDi to trip.
UDi output power rating: 50% of rated value
Nominal AC supply voltage: 380440 Vac
Tolerance: -20% / +10%
Continuous AC supply current: 1.2 x UDi rated current
Recommended supply fuse: 1.5 x UDi rated current
Maximum AC supply current: 1.7 x UDi rated current
Output current derating: refer fig. below
Single phase AC must be supplied to the L1-L3 or L1-L2 input
terminals of the UDi for the drive to operate. The heatsink
cooling fan must still be supplied from a 400Vac three phase
source.
Some current beating will be evident at certain frequencies
when the UDi is supplied from a single phase supply. Generally
this will not affect motor operation.
