44 . Spectrum 100 Series User’s Guide
The Spectrum Software works through a series of instrument performance tests:
• Start-up – Reviews the power-up diagnostics to make sure no problems
were found when the Spectrum instrument was switched on.
• Laser Amplitude – Checks the amplitude of the laser
• Interferogram – Checks the amplitude of the interferogram.
• Wavelength Calibration – Performs a wavelength calibration by checking
and correcting against the position of a reference peak in a polystyrene
spectrum, which is collected either from the internal polystyrene filter, or if
not fitted, then by asking you to place the polystyrene test card supplied
with the instrument in the sample slide.
• Background – Collects a background spectrum and checks the beamsplitter
cut-off and the energy levels.
• SNR – Collects spectra and performs a signal-to-noise ratio test checked
against a set limit.
• Polystyrene – If an internal polystyrene filter is not available you will be
asked to insert the test card shipped with the instrument, so that a
spectrum can be collected and the position of five standard peaks checked.
11. When the tests are complete, click View Log. A new window allows you to see the
results of the instrument performance tests in more detail.
