E396 High Fuel Rail Pressure
Conditions Which G enerate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects
excessive fuel rail pressure. The ECM detects the
following pro
blems:
•
The ECM detects fuel rail pressure that is more
than the press
ure that is required for the operating
conditions.
•
Diagnostic co
de 0262-03 5 Volt Sensor DC Power
Supply voltage above normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic co
de 0262-04 5 Volt Sensor DC Power
Supply voltage below normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic c
ode 1797-03 Fuel Rail Pressure
Sensor voltage above normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic c
ode 1797-04 Fuel Rail Pressure
Sensor voltage below normal is not active.
•
No diagnosti
c codes are active for the fuel rail
pump.
•
No diagnosti
c codes are active for the fuel injectors.
System Response:
The event code will be logged.
The optiona
l warning lamp will be illuminated.
Possible Performance E ffect:
The engine will be derated until the keyswitch is
turned to OFF.
Troubleshooting:
The event co
de does not represent a problem with
the electronic system. This event indicates high fuel
pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual,
“Fuel Syste
m-inspect”.
A failed relief valve, the fuel pump or an electronic
unit injec
tor may cause an event code to be logged.
Results:
•
OK – STOP.

E398 Low Fuel Rail Pressu re
Conditions Which Generate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects a
problem with low fuel rail pressure. The ECM detects
the following
problem:
•
The ECM determines that the expected fuel
rail pressure
is lower than the pressure that is
requested by the electronic control system.
•
Diagnostic co
de 0262-03 5 Volt Sensor DC Power
Supply voltage above normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic co
de 0262-04 5 Volt Sensor DC Power
Supply voltage below normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic c
ode 1797-03 Fuel Rail Pressure
Sensor voltage above normal is not active.
•
Diagnostic c
ode 1797-04 Fuel Rail Pressure
Sensor voltage below normal is not active.
•
No diagnosti
c codes are active for the fuel rail
pump.
•
No diagnosti
c codes are active for the fuel injectors.
System Response:
The event code will be logged.
The optiona
l warning lamp will be illuminated.
Possible Performance Effect:
The engine will be derated until the keyswitch is
turned to OFF.
Troubleshooting:
Low fuel pre
ssure may be caused by the following
problems. There can be a problem with the fuel
return system. There can be a problem with the fuel
pressure co
ntrol. There can be a leak in the high
pressure fuel system.
Afailedre
lief valve, the fuel pump or an electronic
unit injector may cause an event code to be logged.
The event c
ode does not represent a problem with
the electronic system. This event indicates low fuel
rail pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual,
“Fuel Syst
em - Inspect”.
Results:
•
OK – STOP.
