Troubleshooting Section
B. Disconnect the P532 connector from the fuel rail
pump solenoid.
C. Disconnect the P2 connector from the ECM.
D. Measure the resistance between P2:26 and P2:25.
E. Measure the re
sistance between P2:25 and
voltage +.
F. Measure the re
sistance between P2:25 and the
voltage (-).
G. Measure the re
sistance between P2:26 and
voltage +.
H. Measure the re
sistance between P2:26 and
voltage (-).
Expected Resu
lt:
The resistance is greater than 20,000 Ohms.
Results:
OK The harne
ss has no short circuit to supply
or ground. The ECM is suspect. Proceed to Test
Step 7.
Not OK The harness has a short circuit.
Repair: Repa
ir the harness and connectors or
replace the faulty harness and connectors.
Connect the P
532 connector to the fuel rail pump
solenoid.
Connect the
P2 connector to the ECM.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Use the Perkins EST in order to perform the fuel
rail pump solenoid test.
Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all
logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the
repair has e
liminated the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 7. Check the ECM and the
Harness
A. Turn the ke
yswitchtotheOFFposition.
B. Disconnect the P532 connector from the fuel rail
pump solen
oid.
C. Insert a jumper wire across P532.
D. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
E. Use the electronic service tool in order to perform
the fuel rail pu
mp solenoid test.
F. Use the electronic service tool in order to monitor
the status scr
een.
Expected Result:
A 1779-06 diagnostic code is displayed.
Results:
OK The ECM and the ECM connections function.
The solenoid i
s not an open circuit. Recheck the
diagnostic codes. Proceed to Test Step 5.
Not OK The ECM
is suspect. Proceed to Test
Step 8.
Test Step 8. Ch
eck the ECM Function
A. Temporarily connect a test ECM. The test ECM
shouldbepro
grammed with the correct software.
All parameters should be set to the same value of
the suspect ECM.
B. Replace all connectors.
C. Connect the e
lectronic service tool to the
diagnostic connector.
D. Turn the keys
witchtotheONposition.
E. Use the electronic service tool in order to monitor
the status s
creen.
F. Use the electronic service tool in order to perform
the fuel rai
l pump solenoid test.
G. Monitor the status screen on the electronic service
tool.
Expected Result:
The fault is eliminated.
Results:
OK If the fault is eliminated with the test ECM,
reconnect t
he suspect ECM. If the fault returns
with the suspect ECM, replace the ECM. Use the
electronic service tool in order to clear all logged
diagnosti
c codes and then verify that the repair
eliminates the fault. STOP.
