Troubleshooting Section
Test Step 1. Check for Connector
Damage.
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Check the conn
ectors and the harness for the
following faults: damage, abrasion, corrosion, and
incorrect attachment.
C. Refer to Troubleshooting, “Electrical Connectors
- Inspect”.
D. Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the
wires in the harness that are associated with the
speed demand
device. Check the wire connectors
attheECMandatthecontrolsystem.Thewire
connectors are shown in table 40.
E. Check the screw for the ECM connector for the
correcttorqueof5.0N·m(44lbin).
Expected Result:
The connect
ors and the harness should be free of
the following faults: damage, abrasion, corrosion,
and incorrect attachment.
Results:
OK Proceed
to Test Step 2.
Not OK
Repair: Repair the connectors or the harness
and/or replace the connectors or the harness.
Verify that the repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 2. Check for active Diagnostic
Codes.
A. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
B. Use the Per
kins EST to check for diagnostic
codes.
Expected R
esult:
RESULT 1 The Perkins EST displays the following
active di
agnostic codes or recently logged diagnostic
codes:
91-03
91-04
RESULT 2 The Perkins EST displays no active
diagnostic codes:
Results:
Result 1 Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result 2 There
may be an intermittent connection
in the wiring. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Test Step 3. Ch
eck t he Control Signal.
A. Refer to the OEM supplied manual for the control
system.
B. Check that the output signal from the control
system is corr
ect.
Expected Result:
The output signal from the control system should be
within the specication in the OEM supplied manual.
Results:
OK The outpu
t signal from the control system is
correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
Not OK The ou
tput signal from the control
system is not correct or the control system is
incorrectly congured.
Repair: Repair the control system or congure the
control system. Refer to the OEM supplied manual.
Verify that the repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 4. Check the Signal at the ECM.
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Remove the P
1 OEM connector.
C. Temporarily remove the pin from P1:54.
D. Reconnect P1 OEM connector.
E. Connect the
redprobeofamultimetertothe
removed pin and the black probe of a multimeter
to P1:33.
F. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
G. Check that t
he signal at the ECM is the same
value as the output signal from the control system.
H. Turn the key
switch to the OFF position.
I. Remove P1 OEM connector and reinstall P1:54 to
theP1OEMco
nnector.
J. Reconnect P1 OEM connector.
